Pricing guide

Flat-rate vs per-minute dialer pricing: which is cheaper at 3,000, 5,000 and 8,000 minutes?

Per-minute pricing costs less when agents talk less, and flat-rate pricing costs less when they talk more. EmberDial is $99 per concurrent license a month plus $0.02 per connected minute, so one agent costs $159 at 3,000 connected minutes, $199 at 5,000 and $259 at 8,000. Against ReadyMode Starter at $239 a license and PhoneBurner Standard at $165 a user, billed monthly, the answer turns on talk time. At 3,000 minutes EmberDial is $159, less than ReadyMode Starter and PhoneBurner Standard. At 5,000 minutes EmberDial is $199: PhoneBurner Standard now costs less, while ReadyMode Starter still costs more. At 8,000 minutes EmberDial is $259, and ReadyMode Starter and PhoneBurner Standard both cost less.

CloudTalk and JustCall cost less per seat than one EmberDial license, but their unlimited calling has fair-use limits, and predictive or parallel dialing, AI call review and extra numbers cost more or sit on higher plans. Convoso and Kixie need a quote.

Cost per agent at 1,000 to 8,000 connected minutes

All figures are per agent a month at published list prices, billed monthly, before taxes and surcharges. Connected minutes are talk time: an agent who talks three hours a day for 22 days connects about 3,960 minutes.

8,000$99$160$2593.24 cents

EmberDial is an outbound sales dialer for US teams and agencies. The license is fixed and the minutes grow, so the cost per connected minute falls as agents talk more. Each license includes 10 US local numbers, pooled across your agency. No minutes are included. See pricing.

Where flat and per-minute cross

A flat seat and one EmberDial license cost the same at 50 × (seat price minus $99) connected minutes a month. Above that, the flat seat costs less; below it, per-minute does. Annual billing lowers the seat price and so the break-even.

The seat price is not the whole bill

A flat seat often leaves out things a per-minute license includes. Our comparison pages add each competitor's published upgrades and add-ons that match what every EmberDial license includes: local numbers (three per agent in this example), number reputation, and transcripts with call reviews. Items a competitor prices by quote, or doesn't list, are named instead of guessed.

Connected, dialed and billed minutes

Three different counts hide behind "minutes," and each changes the comparison.

Three kinds of minutes
CountWhat it measuresWhat to ask
Dialed minutesTime a line is in use, including ringing, busy signals and unanswered callsDoes the plan charge for ringing? Multi-line and predictive dialing ring many lines per conversation, so ringing time can be larger than talk time.
Connected minutesAnswered call time, whether a person or voicemail answersDo voicemail answers count? Do transfers and conferences count each leg?
Billed minutesWhat the invoice charges after any rounding and minimumsHow is each call rounded, and are taxes and surcharges extra?

In EmberDial: Answered inbound and outbound calls to US local and mobile numbers count, including calls answered by voicemail. Ringing and practice sessions don't count. During a transfer or conference, each answered external call leg counts for its own duration. International, premium, toll-free inbound and other high-cost routes need a separate quote. Taxes, surcharges, billing increments and rounding are confirmed in your written order. More in the glossary under connected minute.

Unlimited calling and fair-use limits

Flat prices usually include calling, but "unlimited" often comes with a fair-use policy. Here is what each competitor publishes about its calling minutes.

Calling minutes, as each company publishes them
DialerCalling minutes
ReadyMode
Checked October 7, 2026
Outbound minutes are free on both plans, subject to a fair use policy. Inbound minutes are $0.02 a minute. (ReadyMode pricing)
PhoneBurner
Checked October 7, 2026
Unlimited dialing with no per-minute charges on every plan, to numbers in the United States and Canada. (PhoneBurner FAQ)
CloudTalk
Checked October 7, 2026
US and Canada calls included under a fair usage policy: by default each user has 3,000 outbound minutes a month, US and Canada calling is limited to 10,000 minutes per user, and extra minutes are charged from credit. (CloudTalk pricing, fair usage policy)
JustCall
Checked October 7, 2026
Unlimited US and Canada outbound minutes, under a fair usage policy that excludes call centers and telemarketing and lets JustCall place limits. (JustCall pricing, fair usage policy)
Convoso
Checked October 7, 2026
Carrier fees for calls are typically billed separately from the software subscription, at rates that vary with usage and destination. (Convoso pricing)
Kixie
Checked October 7, 2026
Unlimited minutes for US and Canada calls listed on every plan. (Kixie pricing)
EmberDial
Checked October 19, 2026
$0.02 per connected minute; no minutes are included. Ringing doesn’t count.

A fair-use limit matters most at the top of the range. A policy that excludes call centers or telemarketing can apply to an outbound sales floor whatever its talk time, so ask the vendor in writing whether your calling fits.

Included minute allowances

Some flat plans include a set number of minutes per user, then charge for the rest. CloudTalk's default is 3,000 outbound minutes per user a month, with extra minutes charged from credit (CloudTalk pricing, fair usage policy), checked October 7, 2026. That is why the table marks its cost at 5,000 and 8,000 minutes as "plus minutes past 3,000".

To compare a plan with an allowance:

  • Find the allowance per user and whether it is pooled across the team.
  • Find the rate above it, and whether calling stops or keeps billing.
  • Price your heaviest month, not your average one.

EmberDial includes no minutes, so every connected minute is billed at $0.02 from the first one.

How to estimate your own talk time

  1. Start from reports. Your current dialer or phone system reports talk time per agent. Use that, not dials or logged-in hours.
  2. Or work it out. Hours on the phone a day × 60 × calling days a month. The table below assumes 22 calling days.
  3. Count people dialing at once. Concurrent licenses cover simultaneous callers, so add up talk time per license, not per person.
  4. Use a busy month. Flat seats don't change with volume; a per-minute bill does.
Talk time per agent over 22 calling days
Talk hours a dayConnected minutes a monthEmberDial per agent
11,320$125.40
22,640$151.80
33,960$178.20
45,280$204.60
56,600$231
67,920$257.40

Then enter your licenses, minutes and any quote in the dialer cost calculator to see your own break-even. Dial mode matters too: see power vs predictive dialing.

FAQ

Is flat-rate or per-minute dialer pricing cheaper?

It depends on talk time. A flat seat costs the same however much an agent talks, and a per-minute bill grows with every connected minute. Against EmberDial at $99 a license plus $0.02 a connected minute, an all-in flat seat costs less once each agent connects more than 50 × (seat price minus $99) minutes a month. Below that, per-minute costs less. Check the worked tables.

At how many minutes is PhoneBurner cheaper than EmberDial?

At about 3,300 connected minutes per agent a month against PhoneBurner Standard at $165 billed monthly, or about 2,050 against $140 billed annually (PhoneBurner pricing, checked October 7, 2026). Adding the upgrades that match what EmberDial includes moves that point higher; see EmberDial vs PhoneBurner.

Is unlimited dialer calling really unlimited?

Not always. ReadyMode includes outbound minutes subject to a fair use policy. JustCall's fair usage policy excludes call centers and telemarketing and lets it place limits. CloudTalk gives each user 3,000 outbound minutes a month by default and charges extra minutes from credit. PhoneBurner and Kixie list unlimited US and Canada calling. Read each policy before you count on it; see the fair-use table.

Does ringing count toward EmberDial's per-minute bill?

No. Answered inbound and outbound calls to US local and mobile numbers count, including calls answered by voicemail. Ringing and practice sessions don't count. During a transfer or conference, each answered external call leg counts for its own duration. International, premium, toll-free inbound and other high-cost routes need a separate quote.

How do I estimate my team's monthly talk time?

Take talk time per agent from your current dialer's reports, not dials or logged-in hours. If you only know hours on the phone a day, multiply by 60 and by your calling days. Then run the total through the dialer cost calculator.

How do Convoso and Kixie compare if they don't publish prices?

Ask for a quote and compare it to EmberDial at your talk time. At 3,000 connected minutes per agent, a quote has to come in under $159 a seat a month, all in, to cost less. At 8,000 minutes, under $259. Convoso bills carrier fees separately from its subscription, so add them to its seat price.

Does annual billing change the answer?

It lowers the flat seats, so they cost less at lower talk time: ReadyMode Starter drops to $199 (break-even about 5,000 minutes) and PhoneBurner Standard to $140 (about 2,050). EmberDial publishes monthly prices; annual terms are confirmed separately in writing.

Does sharing licenses across shifts change the comparison?

Yes. A per-user price bills every named agent, while an EmberDial license covers one person dialing at a time. Agents keep their own logins and share licenses across shifts, so two part-time agents on one license put both their talk time on it. Compare total talk time per paid seat, not per person. See concurrent calling license.
